YASMINE MARCUS's profile

Kara Walker Inspired Print Project

Kara Walker is an American Contemporary artist who explores race, gender, sexuality, violence and identity throughout her works. She often uses but is not limited to drawing, painting, text, shadow puppetry, film and sculptures to expose the traumas of slavery and stereotypes. Walker's strong imagery and ability to storytell confronts the viewer to examine contemporary social issues. Walker’s intent is not to create pretty images or to raise easily answered questions. She has explained her use of “the silhouette says a lot with very little information, but that’s also what the stereotype does.”
